Pet Imaging in Melrose

The diagnostic equipment at Melrose Animal Clinic has two essential purposes. It allows us to screen symptom-free pets for common conditions and diagnose ill or injured pets quickly and accurately. Early detection is a pillar of our practice. The sooner we identify a health issue, the sooner we can develop a customized treatment plan for your pet. Our pet imaging and diagnostics include x-ray, ultrasound and an in-house laboratory.

Complete Laboratory Capabilities

Our on-site veterinary laboratory generates test results within 20 minutes when we need it to. We use it primarily for sick and urgent care scenarios. For non-urgent testing including pre-anesthetic blood work and early detection blood testing, we work with an outside lab who can have results available within 24 hours.

Some of the tests we run in-house include:

  • Complete blood counts
  • Blood chemistry profiles
  • Skin scrapings
  • Urinalysis
  • Needle biopsies

Lab tests can help detect a range of internal medical conditions, often before physical symptoms arise. These include skin and ear disorders; infections; hormonal disorders such as diabetes, thyroid problems, and Cushing’s disease; heart, liver, kidney or blood diseases; tumors; parasites and their associated diseases; and more.

Pet Imaging Equipment

Digital X-rays and ultrasound use advanced imaging technology that allows us to see your pet’s internal workings. Pet x-rays give us a detailed static image of their abdomen and skeletal structure, while ultrasound uses sound waves to show organs, the gastrointestinal tract, and joints all in real-time. We use both imaging technologies to diagnose:

  • Broken bones
  • Muscle and joint conditions
  • Foreign body location
  • Tumors
  • Abdominal problems
  • And more

Since these are digital images, we can easily share them with you and with board-certified specialists if your pet requires additional expertise.
